Our Eco Committee
This year, each class voted to elect a representative to form part of our eco committee. As a team we are working to improve the environment of our school and the local community.
We are currently working towards earning the Eco Schools Award and are also working with Surfers Against Sewage. One of our key aims is to reduce the amount of plastic used at Salisbury Road and gain Plastic Free Status.
As a school, we have an international link with a school in South Africa. We are working collaboratively on ways to reduce plastic usage. In June, teachers from South Africa will be visiting our school and together, we will be taking part in a beach clean at Bovisands. It should be an exciting and productive day!
This year we are also taking part in The Big Battery Hunt. A national project which aims to recycle as many used batteries as possible.
Batteries can be recycled just like newspapers, cans and plastic bottles. Through recycling batteries we can help the environment in two ways:
1) Reduce the amount of rubbish going to landfill - batteries can take up to 100 years to decompose!
2) It saves energy.
Your children will be sent home with a book to collect used batteries. These can then be added to the big box in school. So please support your children and the environment and help them to fill their boxes!
