Our Eco Committee

Children from across the school, Year 1 - Year 6,  form our eco committee, ensuring each age group has a voice. As a team we are working to improve the environment of our school and the local community.

We are currently working towards earning the Eco Schools Award and are also working with Surfers Against Sewage. One of our key aims is to reduce the amount of plastic used at Salisbury Road and gain Plastic Free Status.

As a school, we have an international link with Lourier School in South Africa. We are working collaboratively on ways to reduce plastic usage. In June 2019, teachers from South Africa visited our school and together, we took part in a beach clean at Bovisands. It was an exciting and productive day!

In February 2020, teachers from across the Learning Academies Trust paid a reciprocal visit to South Africa. It was an enlightening experience and plans were made to drive forward the collaborative project.

In 2021, our Year 6 children were inspired by the visit to South Africa and children on both sides of the world made playground benches out of eco-bricks. The school worked hard to collect clean, plastic rubbish inside plastic bottles and the eco-bricks as part of the playground furniture. Come and have a look!

The work has continued on with various different projects including in 2022 a debating project focused on the environment!

Many thanks,
