Our inspirational person in the Autumn term was Mohammed Ali
In the Spring term, our famous person is a paralympic swimmer called Ellie Simmonds
Ellie Simmonds is one of Paralympics GB's most well-known athletes. She was born on 11th November 1994 in Walsall. When Ellie was five years old, she became interested in swimming. It soon became clear that Ellie was a talented swimmer. When she was aged 11, Ellie and her mum moved to Swansea so she could train with one of the country’s top coaches. Ellie’s dad, her brother and sisters stayed in Walsall.
In 2008 at the age of 13, Ellie was ParalympicsGB’s youngest competitor at the Beijing Games. There she won two gold medals and broke her own world record by more than seven seconds.
In total, Ellie has won five gold medals, one silver and two bronze. In 2013, Ellie was given an OBE. She is a patron of a charity that supports disabled children involved in sport. Ellie is also part of the 2022 Commonwealth Games organising committee.
In the summer term our inspirational person is Usain Bolt. The Jamaican athlete broke many world records and won a large number of medals and titles during the course of his athletics career.
