Welcome To Year 5!
Your awesome group of teachers are: Mrs S.Gill, Mr V. Williams and Mrs T. Angliss.
Our wonderful teaching and learning assistants are: Mrs Winter (5SG), Mrs Pickerill (5TA) and Mrs J.Foster (5VW)
This term will be fantastic! We are learning about the world that we live it and how to look after our planet.
We will be writing persuasive letters to Mrs Moran, Mrs Benton and Mr Spry! I can't tell you what they will be about, but we have some exciting projects that year 5 are going to champion! 5SG will be part of a trial for the university, where they are looking at how robots can support class based learning.
This term, think READ, READ, READ! play high 5 with your family to recall the main facts (they will love this). I want to hear all about the authors that you love. Don't just read a school book, find a book you love! I am obsessed with all things David Walliams at the moment;can you convince me to read something else?
This is a big term guys. We need you all to stay focused and give 100% We will be making you work really hard, but we know you can do it.
You will have weekly homework as usual. This term, please could you all make sure it is in in time. This means you bring it in on a Monday. Your spellings have gone home, however if you need another copy, please ask.
You could do lots at home to help yourself:
Cooking - reading scales/ having fun!
telling the time - we all need to spend time doing this to make sure we are really confident.
Make something creative and write a description of how you did it.
Write a diary
When you go shopping, try and add up the items to see if you can find the total amount that the items will cost.
Play target number. Get the person you live with to give you a 3 digit number and 5 random smaller numbers. How close can you get to the target number.
write down 10 letters and see how many words you can find.

In year 5, we are reading every day as part of our Accelerated Reader scheme so please ensure reading books and records are in school every day.
Friday - Spelling test
All children are expected to have their PE kit in school everyday in case changes are made to the timetable.
Mobile Phones and Medication
We are aware that many Year 5 children bring mobile phones to school. Please ensure that they have an up-to-date permission slip signed and that this is handed to their class teacher. All phones are locked away during the day, then returned to the children at the end of the day.
If your child requires medication to the taken during the day, please ensure a medical form is completed and handed into the school office. All medicines must be prescribed by a doctor.
