Wellbeing is defined by the Oxford English Dictionary as “the state of being comfortable, healthy, or happy.” At Salisbury Road Primary, we understand the importance of ensuring that both pupils and staff, as well as our wider school community, are cared and nurtured for, thus allowing all to flourish and become the best that they can be.
This year, we will be developing our understanding and awareness of how we can improve wellbeing at our school.
The Power of Water
This year we are focusing on the wellbeing of all members of our community. Following the water survey carried out last term, we have found out that our children love to drink water – 74.8% of them! However, this is not enough – this year we hope to get all our children drinking more water and reaping the rewards of a hydrated brain. 73.8% of children surveyed, said that they bring a reusable water bottle to school, but only 26.2% of children say that they remember to drink water during lessons.
As the following quotes show, our children clearly understand the benefits of drinking water.
‘It rehydrates and refreshes’
‘Because water is healthy for you and it helps you become stronger’
‘It is healthy, free and keeps me fit.’
So this term, we would like to encourage all children to bring to school a reusable water bottle which they will be encouraged to refill and drink throughout the day.
