Welcome to the Summer term in Foundation at Salisbury Road!
It has been lovely to welcome the children back after the Easter break. We have enjoyed hearing all about what the children have been up to and have had some great oracy sessions from this.
Our new topic for the term is 'The Ocean'. Each week we will focus on a different type of sea creature -starting the term off with Shark week! The children had lots of fun learning about different animals last term and we are confident they will love learning about the ocean.
If your child has any special Ocean/sea creature books or objects they would like to share please send them into school or feel free to send us a message on Dojo for the children to talk to their friends about:)

All about us
Underpinning all of our learning and time together is our school values. They are also linked to our Class Dojo rewards. We will learn about and celebrate examples of each value daily.

Information about Foundation
Phonics: We do phonics everyday and follow the RWI scheme. We currently have three groups running recapping the set 1/2 sounds but tailored to the children's skills. We will also send reading books matched to their skills and group 2x week - please read with your child as often as possible.
Maths: We will continue to build a strong foundation of numbers to 10 by exploring the composition of each number, comparing and sorting numbers and objects, exploring number bonds to five and ten and also learning about numbers beyond 20, doubling, sharing and odds and evens! All children have a login to be able to access the NumBots website. We encourage the children to play for 15 minutes each day. Each week there is a certificate for the most minutes played in each class.
Topic: This term our topic is all about the ocean! We will learn about different sea creatures and habitats.
Reading: Reading is at the heart of everything we do in foundation so we encourage you to read with your child everyday. We have an exciting reading raffle where child could win the book of the term! All they need to do to be entered each week is to read at home at least 4 times each week. The more times they do, the more chances they have to win the book, so get reading!
