Hello, I am Mrs White the school SENDCO (Special Educational Needs and Disability Coordinator). I work in the pastoral team with Mrs Mirza (Family Liaison Officer).

At Salisbury Road, our mission is to create a highly inclusive, happy, courageous and stimulating learning environment in which ALL members of the school community can grow in self-esteem and develop to their full potential.

We are an inclusive school that embrace the fact that every child is unique and with different aspirations, therefore we appreciate that the educational needs of every child can vary. Even more so for children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND).

We believe the most important factor in raising educational outcomes, whatever a young person’s needs, is through high quality classroom teaching. Due to the inclusive systems available to all students at Salisbury Road, most students with additional needs will not require specialist SEN provision, as they are able to make progress whilst utilising whole school systems.

At all times, parents’ co-operation and involvement in their child’s development is highly valued and considered essential if children are to realise their full potential.

The documents in this section should help to answer any questions you may have about SEN at Salisbury Road Primary School. If you have any questions then please contact us, we are happy to help and are enthusiastic about providing support.

Our door is always open.

'My name is Maria Mirza and I am happy to have returned to my position as Family Liaison Officer at Salisbury Road Primary. I have spent 16 years working alongside parents/carers and children/young people, both in secondary and primary schools and respite centres. I have also facilitated parenting programmes at secondary school level.

I have my own family so understand how challenging parenting can be at times!

My role involves working within the inclusion team. Our aim is to remove barriers which prevent our children from learning. I endeavour to do this by working alongside both parents/carers and children to explore their needs and signpost to services that may be able to support, with a variety of issues.

I am also trained as a ELSA (Emotional Literacy Support Assistant) and work with referred children to improve self esteem and provide anger and anxiety management strategies. I also can support with issues surrounding bereavement.

My hobbies include writing children's stories, drawing/painting and singing. I am also learning to swim!

If you feel you would benefit from a listening ear, please get in touch, I work on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays'.

Thank you

Maria Mirza

I am Ruth Granville-West and I was co-opted as a parent governor in July 2018. I am a mum of three children, all currently attending Salisbury Road Primary and I have a background in Primary School teaching. I believe that the staff at Salisbury Road Primary work extremely hard to ensure the children's learning and welfare are the best they can be and are always open to improvement. I am keen to work with and assist the staff at Salisbury Road Primary in maintaining this continual improvement.
