Year 3 Visit Wild About Woods
Wild about woods Year 3 truly have had an incredible week! The children have been on an adventure to the woods to learn all about the Stone Age! What an incredible day it was! To begin with, the children foraged on their way to the Wild About Woods site looking for stones to turn into tools, food to eat and flowers to paint with. When we arrived at the camp, we were transported to Stone Age life. Throughout the day, the children explored the woods and discovered for themselves how to make a shelter out of what they could find! The children were able to grind charcoal with water to make face paints and later used the same technique to make their own paint for cave art. We were able to make clothes, jewellery, and cave art with the items found in the woods. One of the most exciting parts of the day had to be fire building and marshmallow toasting on sticks: they were delicious! We learnt how to make a simple bread recipe with the food we had foraged and later cooked this on a fire to eat. As if the day couldn't get any better, at lunch time we were able to play on the rope swing, in the river and explore the woods. It really was the best day. It is safe to say that the staff enjoyed it as much as the children. A big thank you to the parents who came and helped with the trip too!
