Welcome to Miss Blacker's Year 6 Class Page
Welcome back to your final term at Salisbury Road Primary School!
Welcome back to the summer term where there are going to be lots of exciting trips and events.
This term our topic is 'Where in the World'. We will be learning all about global climate, biomes and will develop an understanding of time zones including longitude and latitude.
As you know, this term you will be taking your end of Key Stage 2 standardised tests. These will take place during the week beginning 13th May.
You are fully prepared for these so there is absolutely nothing to be worried about. All we have ever asked from you is that you focus on your learning during lessons and always do your best.
Remember to come and join us for the SATs breakfast club every day of SATs week - we would love to see you there.
Our leavers performance
At the end of the term we will be performing our leavers play to your friends and family.
You will find out very soon which play we will be doing...in the meantime, practise your singing and acting skills ready for the big performance!
In our English lessons, we will be focusing on our writing and will be providing opportunities for you to include all of the grammar you have learnt over previous years. We will also be working on the composition and effect of your writing using the 'show not tell' idea we have been learning about. We will be using lots of exciting stimulus to enhance your written work this term.
We will be continuing to practise the spellings from the Y3/4 and Y5/6 list (See links below). These are words that you need to know how to spell as you move to secondary school in September.
Alongside this, we will be revising all of the spelling rules from Year 3, 4 and 5.
Please see link below for Summer Term 1 spelling sheet.
In our maths lessons we will be revising all areas of maths - number and shape, space and measure. Later on, we will be putting all of our maths skills and strategies into practice with a wide range of problem solving tasks and investigations.
They are lots of fun and also allow you to work collaboratively with your peers.
In Science, we will be exploring electricity. We will be developing our understanding of circuits and creating our own.
We will also be linking our unit on electricity with our Design and technology lessons - watch this space!!
Homework for the first half of this term will be revision for reading, grammar and maths - please ensure that this is completed as it will help to keep key learning fresh in your mind.
Later on in the term, you will be given a variety of homework tasks: literacy, maths, science or topic.
Reading is so important and should be done at least four times a week. Please try to read as often as you can and make sure you record what you have read in your reading record.
Every half term we will hold a raffle draw for two children in the class to win a book by our focus author of the term. This term's author is Percy Jackson.
When you read four times in a week, your name will be written on the back of a raffle ticket and put into the draw.
Don't forget to take your quizzes on AR - if you get seven quiz results of 100% then you earn yourself free time on the chrome books :) KEEP READING!
Please make sure you access the TT Rockstars website as often as you can - it is crucial that you know your times tables up to 12x12.
Every time you move up a level on the website, you will receive a raffle ticket and this will be entered into a prize draw at the end of each term. The more raffle tickets you have in the draw, the more likely you are to win!
Our PE day is a Wednesday but this is always subject to change depending on the weather. Please have your PE kits in school every day so that you are prepared.
A few reminders...
Please remember that only stud earrings should be worn at school and must be removed for PE. If they cannot be taken out then they will be taped up.
Make-up and nail varnish is not allowed to be worn at school.
You are welcome to bring a pencil case to school; however, every item within it, is your responsibility.
Mobile phones are allowed to be brought into school but they must be handed into your class teacher at the start of each day. Your parents must complete a green mobile permission slip which is available from the school office.
