Welcome to Mrs Minty's and Mrs Walsh's Class
Happy New Year
Welcome back to a short but action packed spring term full of exciting learning.
This term we will be immersing ourselves in everything to do with Ancient Egypt and look forward to finding out all about Pharaohs, Pyramids and mummification!
We will also be working hard on new learning in Maths and we have lots of exciting cross-curricular reading and writing planned alongside our topic.
Our topic this term is based around Ancient Egypt. We will be learning key events from this period of time. Our learning will start in 7500 BCE and finish at 30 BCE.
We will be finding out all about a range of key concepts during this time in History: Religion, Economy, Culture and Society.
During the topic we will be studying four Pharaohs: Tutankhamun, Remeses II, Amenhotep III and Cleopatra.
Have you heard of these famous pharaohs before?
What do you already know about them?
Excitingly, we are having a visit from The Plymouth and District Egyptology Society later in February which will be something to look forward to.
Topic planning documents
During our English lessons we will be learning new aspects of English grammar and punctuation - this will uplevel our writing too.
We will be writing information texts, setting descriptions, historical quests, instructions, persuasive letters and travel guides. All of these genres will link to our topic on Ancient Egypt.
The class text we will be reading is called The Red Pyramid by Rick Riordan - a fantasy-adventure novel based on Egyptian mythology. Our whole class reading sessions will be based on this exciting story and we will be fully immersing ourselves in the story and characters.
This term, we will start with learning all about time: 12 hour, 24 hour and timetables. After this we will be focusing on division, BIDMAS, scaled drawing, 2D shapes, algebra, symmetry and calculating the mean.
After half term, our maths learning will be based around shape, space and measure: angles, pie charts, area and perimeter, volume, bar charts and line graphs.
Please make sure you access the TT Rockstars website as often as you can - it is crucial that you know your times tables up to 12x12.
Every time you move up a level on the website, you will receive a raffle ticket and this will be entered into a prize draw at the end of each term. The more raffle tickets you have in the draw, the more likely you are to win!
