Hello and welcome to class 6BA.
Well it's been a whirlwind start back to school, but a big welcome back! It's been lovely hearing about your Christmas holidays - even if it was virtually! We are going to be learning about the Ancient Egyptians soon so we have that to look forward to and your topic grids for Friday afternoons will give you a flavour of what's to come with this! It's certainly a fantastic topic - some would say it's out of this world!
This term, we will be building on all the brilliant learning you did in the Autumn term. To begin with, we will be learning how to multiply and divide by 10, 100 and 1000 and apply this to converting metric measures. As for most of us it is our maths target this term, we will be recapping this regularly with the hope that we can do it confidently and mentally! We will then go onto revisiting calculating fractions and percentages. Also, we will be learning how to solve algebraic equations and also interpreting data.
Times tables are so important to many areas of maths and you need to be able to have quick recall. Keep using Times Tables Rockstars several times a week so you can recall your times tables as quickly as possible.
During English this term, we will first be focusing on narrative and descriptive writing. Vocabulary will be a huge focus - so look forward to exploring the wonderful world of words! Following this, we will be learning about persuasion and writing letters to Mrs Moran convincing her to give us a treat! Of course, underpinning all of this will be our SPACEWAVESALVE writing tools - which we will be aiming to include in all of our written work. :-)
This term you will be using the Oak National Academy online resources to learn about evolution and the changes that have happened over time.
In reading this term, our class book is 'High-Rise Mystery' and this book is one of our recommended books from our Year 6 Reading Spine. We will be reading this during our daily reading lessons, along with focusing on the key skills of reading: VIPERS (vocabulary, inference, prediction, explanation, retrieval and sequencing/summarising).
Reading at home is so important for many reasons and we ask that you read regularly (minimum 4 times a week) at home. Prizes are up for grabs at the end of the term for those that do this! During the period of lockdown, we are encouraging you to log onto AR at home and quiz from home. If you need reminding how to do this, then please get in touch with your teacher.
This term you will be using the Oak National Academy online resources to learn about Christianity and the Bible.
In Spanish, we are learning about different modes of transport and we will be making simple sentences to say how we travel.
This term's PSHE learning focuses on goals and how we can plan to reach them and we are beginning to think about how we can look after ourselves.
PE kits will need to be in school each week. PE will be on Tuesdays and Thursdays for those children in school at the moment.
Homework is not being sent out at the moment as their is plenty of home-learning going on. However, if you find yourself with spare time and want to continue your studying, don't forget to log onto TTRS, practise your weekly spellings for the Friday test and of course READ as much as you can!
Although this is a different start to the term, we are positive it will be great. If you have any questions or queries, please contact us via Dojo or email. Thanks for your co-operation.
