Hello and welcome to class 6BA.
We're so excited to meet you and can't wait to start our World War 2 topic. This term's learning is going to take us back 80 years. We will explore Hitler's rise to power, the Holocaust, Britain's battles and the impact that the war had on our nation. It promises to be a gripping topic!
We'll be learning lots of exciting new things in maths this year. For example, ratio, algebra, calculating percentages of amounts as well as working with numbers up to
As part of our preparation for SATs, we'll also be revising all the objectives in key stage 2.
Times tables are so important to many areas of maths and you need to be able to have quick recall. Keep using Times Tables Rockstars several times a week so you can recall your times tables as quickly as possible.
During English this term, we will be writing lots of different genres like information texts, diaries and character descriptions to name just a few! Where we can, we will link these to these to our WWII topic so that the learning is cross-curricular and even more fun and relevant.
Our topics for this term will be electricity and light. Get ready to have fun and learn lots of new facts!
In reading this term, our class book is 'Letters From The Lighthouse' and therefore our focus author is Emma Carroll. We will be reading this in class and in our reading lessons, along with focusing on the key skills of reading: VIPERS (vocabulary, inference, prediction, explanation, retrieval and sequencing/summarising).
Reading at home is so important for many reasons and we ask that you read regularly (minimum 4 times a week) at home. Prizes are up for grabs at the end of the term for those that do this!
PE kits will need to be in school each week. PE will be on Wednesdays for our class.
Homework will be sent out online/handed out on a Friday and should be sent in online/handed in by the following Thursday.
Although this is a different start to the school year, we are positive it will be great. If you have any questions or queries, please contact us via Dojo or email. Thanks for your co-operation.
