Welcome to Year 4!
We hope you had a great half term break and are looking forward to a fun term of learning! We know things are a bit different at the moment but we are here to support you and remember, you can talk to us any time about how you're feeling.
This term, we are going to be studying dilemma stories.
What is a dilemma?
We will be reading the story or Beowulf and digging deep into the storyline, character and settings. By the end of the unit, you will be writing your own dilemma story.
We will also be doing a book unit based on a book called 'How to be a viking' and completing some fantastic descriptions all themed around winter.
In amongst all of this, we will be learning new aspects of grammar and punctuation: expanded noun phrases and speech marks.
This term we will be learning how to multiply and divide larger numbers. We will also be studying measure, perimeter and length.
Don't forget to keep practising your times tables - these are VERY important!
Our geography topic this term is non-renewable and renewable resources. We will be studying the UK's natural resources and the steel and ship building industry. We will focus on land agriculture, coal and power stations, fossil fuels and climate change.
Design and Technology
In our DT lessons, we will be exploring torches; what they are made of and how they work. We will investigate materials and decide on a final design to create at the end of the unit.
Maybe you could start to think of your design?
Remember to bring your reading book and reading record to school every day and read at home four times a week to an adult.
We will be doing PE on a Wednesday afternoon but we might add extra sessions on different days so please make sure your PE kit is in school every day.
Only stud earrings and watches can be worn as part of school uniform. Please make sure you're not wearing nail varnish to school.
School shoes should be black and please ensure you're wearing a school jumper (this does not need to have the school logo on it).
