Welcome to Mrs Pannell's Class Page
Summer Term 2019
Welcome back to our final term, which we are sure will be an exciting and busy time.
Our focus this term is History, where we will be learning all about the Romans and the impact they had in Britain thousands of years ago. Also this term we will be looking at relationships and the development of our bodies as we grow in our PSHE lessons.
This term we will be improving our writing skills, with a focus on diary writing from the perspective of different people during The Roman era. While we will be learning new grammar and writing techniques, it is vitally important that we focus on handwriting and presentation – Remember that there is an opportunity to earn a Pen Licence!
The focus this term is to embed the skills the children have learnt this year. We will be doing this by revisiting key topics to ensure the children have secured the skills needed to transition them into the next academic year. As a school we will continue to use Times Table Rock Stars (TTRS) and we will be celebrating the children’s success in class – please practise at home as this is a really interactive and fun way to learn their times tables.
Homework will be set each week and will mostly consist of an English or Maths activity lasting no longer than about 20 minutes, in addition to reading, spelling practice and numberwork on most days. Once or twice a term, we will also embrace opportunities to set more creative homework tasks – so get your glue and paint at the ready!
Please read – Every day!
While we would love all children to read daily - what is most important is that children develop a love of reading and choose to read for pleasure. As a school we encourage
children to read for 10-20 a day. We will continue to use Accelerated Reader (AR) and we would like pupils to aim to take at least one quiz per week (depending on the size of the book). Please come and have a chat if you have any questions linked to the AR scheme.
We will be learning spellings daily in school with a test once a week on a Friday. These words will be linked to the year 3 spelling patterns as well as the year 3/4 NC required word lists. See links below.
Now it's the Summer term we will making the most of the good weather and having our P.E lessons on a Thursday afternoon at Tothill Park. Where we will be playing a variety of team sports as well as athletics.
Please be assured that if you have any questions or concerns we will be always willing to listen and will do our best to ensure that your child is happy in school.
Many thanks for your continued support.
