3D shapes

When we teacher the children about 3D shapes we explain that they are fat. If we stood them up they would stay standing. We explore the properties of the 3D shapes. They all have faces, vertices and edges. A face is a flat surface on the shape. An edge is where two faces meet. A vertice is a corner. We use sentence stems to support the children when they are describing 3D shapes. It is a ..... I know it is a .... because ..... For example 'It is a cube. I know it is a cube because it has 6 faces, 12 edges and 8 vertices.

We make using the sentence stems fun with games such as guess my shape or shape hunts.

We have attached some activities and ideas below for you to use with your children at home whilst we are doing home learning.
