Welcome to Miss Blacker's Year 6 Class Page

Welcome back to your final year at Salisbury Road Primary School - it's going to be a great year!

We hope you had a lovely summer break and are feeling refreshed and ready for a great year of learning opportunities in year 6.

You are now the top of the school so it is down to you to be fantastic role models for the younger children at our school.

This term...

This term we will be learning all about 'The Best of Britain'.

We will be exploring the history of the Monarchy and how they have influenced our lives today. We will also be learning all about the Geography of our country including towns, cities, rivers, mountains and the transport network.

In Science, we will be exploring the theories behind inheritance and evolution. What have you inherited from your family? Have you ever heard of a hybrid animal?

In our maths and literacy lessons, we will be revising many topics you have learnt since year 3 and deepening our understanding of these. We will also learn new things about division, multiplication and algebra.

Head Boy and Head Girl

Mrs Moran, Mrs Benton and Mrs Evans and the children of Salisbury Road Primary School are looking for a Head Boy, Head girl, Deputy Head Boy, Deputy Head Girl and some prefects.

Have a think about why you would be the best person for the job and watch this space about how to apply.

Homework

Homework will be set each week and will mostly consist of an English or Maths activity lasting no longer than about 30 minutes,  in addition to reading, spelling practice and times table practice on most days.

Once or twice a term, we will also embrace opportunities to set more creative optional homework tasks.

Look out for more information about the Salisbury Road Bake Off!

Reading

Reading is so important and should be done at least four times a week. Please try to read as often as you can and make sure you record what you have read in your reading record.

Every half term we will hold a raffle draw for two children in the class to win a book by our focus author of the term. This term's author is Michael Morpurgo.

When you read four times in a week, your name will be written on the back of a raffle ticket and put into the draw.

Don't forget to take your quizzes on AR - if you get seven quiz results of 100% then you earn yourself free time on the chrome books :) KEEP READING!

TT Rockstars

Please make sure you access the TT Rockstars website as often as you can - it is crucial that you know your times tables up to 12x12.

Every time you move up a level on the website, you will receive a raffle ticket and this will be entered into a prize draw at the end of each term. The more raffle tickets you have in the draw, the more likely you are to win!

PE

Our PE day is a Tuesday but this is always subject to change depending on the weather. Please have your PE kits in school every day so that you are prepared.

A few reminders...

Please remember that only stud earrings should be worn at school and must be removed for PE. If they cannot be taken out then they will be taped up.

Make-up and nail varnish is not allowed to be worn at school.

You are welcome to bring a pencil case to school; however, every item within it, is your responsibility.

Mobile phones are allowed to be brought into school but they must be handed into your class teacher at the start of each day. Your parents must complete a green mobile permission slip which is available from the school office.

Spelling

To start with, we will be focusing on knowing how to spell all of the words on the Year 3/4 spelling list. (See link below)

We will then focus on the year 5/6 spelling list. (See link below)

Alongside this, we will be learning new spelling rules including suffixes, plural nouns, homophones and words which contain a silent letter.

Please see link below for this term's spelling sheet.
