Welcome to Miss Le Masurier's Class Page
Welcome Back - It’s going to be a fantastic year!
We hope that you have all had a lovely summer holiday and are now looking forward the all
of the exciting learning opportunities that await you as you begin your journey in year 3.
This term we will be learning all about Prehistoric History (The Palaeolithic, Mesolithic and Neolithic eras) of The Stone Age.
This term we will be improving our writing skills, with a focus on information texts and learning about Fables and the morals behind the different stories. While we will be learning new grammar and writing techniques, it is vitally important that we focus on handwriting and presentation – Remember that there is an opportunity to earn a Pen Licence!
We will focus this term on Place Value (thousand, hundreds, tens and ones) including the use of estimation, position and decimals. All pupils are expected to know their multiplication facts on the 2,3,4,5,8 and 10 times tables by the end of year 3, we will keep this as a focus for the whole of the year. As a school we use Times Table Rock Stars (TTRS) and we will be celebrating the children’s success in class – please practise at home as this is a really interactive and fun way to learn their times tables.
Homework will be set each week and will mostly consist of an English or Maths activity lasting no longer than about 20 minutes, in addition to reading, spelling practice and numberwork on most days. Once or twice a term, we will also embrace opportunities to set more creative homework tasks – so get your glue and paint at the ready!
Please read – Every day!
While we would love all children to read daily - what is most important is that children develop a love of reading and choose to read for pleasure. As a school we encourage
children to read for 10-20 a day. We will continue to use Accelerated Reader (AR) and we would like pupils to aim to take at least one quiz per week (depending on the size of the book). Please come and have a chat if you have any questions linked to the AR scheme.
We will be learning spellings daily in school with a test once a week on a Friday. These words will be linked to the year 3 spelling patterns as well as the year 3/4 NC required word lists. See links below.
We will have PE twice a week on a Tuesday and Friday. Please ensure that PE kit is in school at the start of each term.
